Biochemical methane potential – BMP

Biochemical methane potential - Standard Method

With over 1,000 methanogenic potential measurements carried out each year, and more than 15 years’ experience, METYS can support you at every stage of your project, from sampling and the definition of an appropriate experimental plan, to the interpretation of the results.

INRAE Transfert Environnement is developing an automated system for measuring methanogenic potential. Our systems combine gas sample-handling robots with devices for pressure and temperature measurement, chromatographic analysis of biogas composition (CH4, CO2, H2S, N2, O2, H2O), data acquisition and analysis.

Used for all our methanogenic potential measurements since 2016, the automation of methanogenic potential measurement has enabled us to take a new step forward in terms of accuracy, reproducibility and reliability, and to further increase our analysis capabilities.

The ADEME methanogenic potential measurement protocol

INRAE Transfert Environnement and INSA Toulouse coordinated an ADEME-funded inter-laboratory study to harmonize methanogenic potential measurement protocols(1).

In addition to a precise quantitative assessment of measurement reproducibility and repeatability, this funded study led to the publication of a standardized methanogenic potential measurement protocol.
