Discover MetaDIA: Diatom diversity by sequencing at the AquaEcomics congress

diatomées_sequençage

Diatoms are widely used in bioindication to assess water quality in aquatic ecosystems such as rivers, lakes, and estuaries. Their sensitivity to physico-chemical variations and pollutants makes them excellent biological indicators. They play a key role in evaluating water quality, calculating the Diatom-Based Biological Index (DBBI), and monitoring ecological changes. This allows scientists to track environmental evolution over the long term, particularly in response to human activities such as agriculture, industry, and urbanization.

Developed as part of research conducted by UMR CARRTEL, the method for characterizing diatom diversity is now available using next-generation sequencing (NGS) under the MetaDIA brand, registered by INRAE.

The benefits of MetaDIA
